Assemblies

The whole school gathers together in the school hall for an assembly. An assembly can be a gathering without spiritual or religious content. At Willow, assemblies will include some or all of the following: an opportunity to reflect on our aims and values; a chance to consider aspects of human life and the natural world; time to reflect so that we can explore sensitivity and respect of people from all backgrounds.

We aim to ensure that the children experience feelings such as “awe and wonder” during this time together – inspired by the world in which we live and that their curiosity is ignited.

We have a range of assembly themes – some linked to World Views, Religious Education Curriculum and PSHE. Have a look at the programme below.

Throughout the week, children enter assemblies listening to different musical genres and they are given information about the artists and composers. This is to create the right ambience for assembly and to mark it as a special time as well as to contribute to our music curriculum.

Occasionally, visitors are invited for assembly such as the PSCO on Road Safety and we welcome and encourage people willing to promote our values in anyway in an assembly.

On Friday’s, children enjoy a Celebration Assembly where we focus on children that have been displaying our PRIDE Values and this is a chance to share any other achievements that they have accomplished both in and out of school. Parents of PRIDE winners are invited to this assembly but this is a secret from their child!

Parents and carers are usually invited to join an assembly each half term for their child’s class assembly.

On a Thursday each class considers the weekly resources provided by Votes for Schools to prompt an impartial discussion on a challenging current issue. Pupils vote and comment and we ensure that their voices are heard and have an impact.
